How to Send a DM the Right Way

Actionable steps to send the most effective DM without it being a cold approach

GM friends 🫡

I know that some of you will remember my personal challenge, where I said that I would be sending a newsletter every week until the end of 2024, and if I missed a week the first person to mention it would win a free pizza.

The winner is Thomas Valera, who pointed out that the newsletter didn't go out last week, so I will get him a pizza at NFT Paris in February 2025.

If you are going to NFT Paris, please send me a DM directly on X, I would love to meet as many of you as possible.

The ‘‘5-3-1’’ Method

When you are selling services or even building a product you will come across profiles on your timeline that you may think are a great fit.

The instant reaction would be to follow them and immediately send a direct DM, but this is the WRONG approach.

With the ‘‘5-3-1’’ method, you will want to follow them and then like 5 of their posts and comment on 3.

Depending on how active they are, you may want to repeat this process for one more day before reaching out to them via DM.

This helps you build rapport so they know who you are and you know who they are, you don’t want to interact with people on a deeper level if they’ve never seen you around before.

The First 3 Steps

Step 1:

Once you have established a small connection with the current prospect, and you both know each other to an extent, that’s when you want to send them a DM, and now their reaction will be ‘‘Oh it’s chuchunav who I have been talking to for the past few days’’.

Step 2:

The second step is to be absolutely genuine with them and have a conversation without giving any sort of service or product offer, ZERO, just get to know them.
